Captain 435 - Fire Hiker

Taking another afternoon hike, this one on November 5th, I decided to take a trail that I take several times each year.  Dorothy Lake is just a fifteen minute walk westward, from the Ebbetts Pass monument marker on Highway 4.   Like that Little Lake area, Dorothy Lake is too close for backpackers and too far for car camping.  The result is another little, almost private spot, to visit.

The trail is an easy walk of moderate sloping trails and offers good vistas for photos of the surrounding areas.

It is another of those "quick get away spots" for me when I have little time for a good day hike.  I can leave home, drive up the hill, park, hike to and return from the lake, and drive home, all within three to five hours.

This day hike was actually made in the late afternoon (3:00 to 5:30) on a return from Nevada and a visit to Dad's place.  I decided, with a storm predicted to come in over the next week, that this would be the last visit for 2002.  The coming snows would close Highway 4 until late spring or summer.  So, off I went.

My truck is parked at the trail head and the ridge above Nobel Canyon can be seen across in the distance to the left.

Leaving Dorothy Lake as the sun sets.  Both on the day hike and the hiking season to this area.  The photo opportunity had to be taken.
