Captain 435 - Fire Hiker

Taking an afternoon hike in late October (the 29th), I decided to take a trail that I had not been on since 1983.  The trail from Ebbetts Pass (right at the monument marker) on Highway 4, up and over a steep ridge into Nobel Lake.

Not remembering details of that trip so long past, I could not recall how long it was or the time necessary to actually get to Nobel Lake.  As with most short, last minute, day hikes I take, it wouldn't matter whether I make it to the lake or not.  More often than not, I get side tracked and alter plans anyway .  Only having a few hours, and losing an hour with the switch off of daylight savings time the weekend before, I just set out for some time in the wilds of Ebbetts Pass.

Looking to the east and the Carson Valley in Nevada, I spotted an interesting cloud formation.

A Juniper Tree, along the trail up the ridge above Nobel Canyon, shows off full branches of colorful Juniper berries.

Looking to the north west again, one can see the three peaks above the three Kinney Lakes and the Raymond Meadows area.  To the right is Raymond Peak, in the center is Reynolds Peak, and to the left is the third . . . it has no official name.  So to keep the "R" theme, let's call it Ron's Peak.  Ha-ha.

Climbing up the slope of the ridge above Nobel Canyon, I spoted this large rounded boulder.  Almost like a ball.
