Captain 435 - Fire Hiker

With Julie gone to San Jose on business, I had an afternoon and evening to hit the high country.

An August afternoon gave me the opportunity to get up to the high country of Highway 4 in the Alpine County area. Driving up the hill, I had not yet made up my mind where I was heading.  I just knew I was going to spend the evening at one of the lakes and have a campfire dinner.

Choosing to take the "boat" (a SCUBA dive board) did mean that I was heading for the Spicer Road area.  But what lake to choose.  Spicer Reservoir, Union Lake Reservoir, or Utica Reservoir ?

Arriving in the area, I decided to hit the waters of Union Lake.  I off loaded my "boat" and began cruising the south shoreline.  Toward the east end of the lake, I found an old campsite that I had visited in past years, and put in to shore to check it out.

Union Lake is a man made reservoir that offers great canoeing and camping trips.  It is approximately 6000 feet above sea level and offers a peacful and quiet setting for hikers, car campers, and canoers alike.

With the "Alpine Setting" at Union Lake, many photo oportunities can be found with any short hike or canoe trip.  One just need look to the shores or just off one of the many trails in the area to capture nature's best.

Seeing that the camp was clean, I set up a day use camp and started a camp fire for the intent of the trip, dinner in the woods.  While the fire was blazing, I got my cooking items out of the boat and made them ready for cooking.  As the fire turned to coals for cooking, I made my way around the campsite and took some pictures.
